Bennington House by Post Architecture is designed on a beautiful tension: a familiar white farmhouse silhouette paired with a darker, modern counterpart. Tucked into Toronto’s Bennington Heights—“a quiet pocket wrapped in ravines”—it began as a renovation, until the existing structure couldn’t support the homeowners’ goals. The solution was a rebuild on the same footprint: preserving the farmhouse presence and its sense of memory, while opening the door to modern living.

Part of a six-episode series on Instagram, this showcase features three of those videos: two with the architect and one with the homeowners. A study in delicate balance; when to rebuild, what to preserve, and what reveals itself once a house becomes home.

Episode 1: Old House | New Spirit

Every project has a moment of clarity. For Bennington House, it was realizing the old farmhouse couldn’t deliver the performance, comfort, or flow the homeowners wanted. The rebuild wasn’t starting over. It was keeping what mattered, and upgrading everything else for long-term living.

kuultip: It’s important to add up all the repairs in a renovation, because it might be smarter to build new on a sound base.

“We kept the original footprint, to keep the spirit and memory of the original idea alive.”

Gloria Apostolou | Post Architecture

Episode 2: Split Personality

The home’s identity is built off two distinct forms; The white farmhouse holds the familiar street presence, while the darker addition plays the modern counterpoint. Inside, the “split” is stitched together by the main staircase – placed right on the seam of old & new. Outside the charred white cedar cladding helps the home settle into the landscape, while the overall massing is carefully scaled to be respectful to neighborhood.

kuultip: A staircase built on the seam where old meets new can acts as a bridge to makes both sides feel like one home.

Episode 3: Comfort in Craft

This final episode shifts to the homeowners’ perspective. The takeaway isn’t a single “wow” moment—it’s the cumulative effect of thoughtful decisions: how rooms connect, how materials hold up in daily routines, and how the house settles into comfort over time. Proof that the design endures well beyond the handover.

kuultip: The best design is the kind you notice more over time.

“The longer we live in our home, the more we notice new details.”
