Designed by Batay-Csorba Architects, Westminster House reflects the founders – Jodi & Andrew Batay-Csorba’s core philosophy: architecture should spark joy, provoke thought, and feel as timeless as it is functional. With its striking gabled roof, layered materials, and purposeful contrasts, this home offers an inspiring blueprint for thoughtful design.

The oversized gabled roof reinterprets Toronto’s Edwardian forms, shaping dynamic interiors. “We wanted to supersize it, making it central rather than secondary,” says Jodi. The roof’s heavy terracotta tiles add gravitas, while its sharp geometry creates soaring, cathedral-like interiors.

kuultip: A roof isn’t just shelter—it can transform a home’s character and spatial experience.

Movement through Westminster House is an emotional journey, where moody, compressed spaces open into bright, airy rooms. “It’s all about moments of contrasts,” Andrew explains. “It’s not just black—it has a richness that transforms when daylight washes over it.”

kuultip: A bold, dark room can make a light-filled one feel even more expansive, creating moments of surprise and delight.

"What spaces give you joy? A lot of our conversations start with that. How we live.”

The home’s material palette is layered and tactile. Hand-pressed brick, raw travertine and stainless-steel contrast beautifully. “We searched for materials that evolve with time,” says Jodi.

For all its bold design, Westminster House is remarkably livable. “Modern homes don’t have to feel like museums,” Andrew emphasizes. Durable design choices make the space family-friendly for real life—with materials that can handle spills, scratches, and the occasional Lego underfoot.

kuultip: Choose materials that match lifestyle. Modern living can be beautiful and family-friendly.

Westminster House is about connection—to light, materials, and rituals. Each element is intentional, enhancing comfort and creativity. “Homes should be tools for living,” says Andrew. Thoughtful design enhances experience, sparking joy in every moment.

kuultip: A well-designed home elevates daily life, blending function, emotion, and inspiration seamlessly.

"Great design should help people feel more deeply connected to their spaces."
